We hope that the annual Spring Forward of Daylight Savings did not cause anyone to lose too much of their beloved sleep. The crew at Paper Culture, especially those of us who are mamas and papas, sure do anticipate and appreciate those quick winks.

Good thing there are folks like O*GE Creative Group who are coming up with new ways of sleeping comfortably and creatively. They take “nesting” literally with their whimsical Giant Birdnest Bed, a massive bed which replicates a bird’s nest in human-sized proportions. It is designed in mind for everyone – as a social space for friends to work and socialize in or as a relaxing area for loved ones to nap in and embrace much-needed quiet time. O*GE has only one instruction on how to use this bed: Simply jump in and enjoy.

We at Paper Culture are also advocates of nesting – both figuratively and literally – as we have tons of bird’s nest cards for mommy-to-be’s. The Nesting Birds baby shower invitation is a bestseller. As for me, I wouldn’t mind burying myself in this nest bed like a bird and drifting off to Neverland. Zzz.

Here at Paper Culture we celebrate many precious moments together from summer barbecues, to birthday celebrations, to major milestones such as weddings. So it’s with great joy that we share our designer Tammy Sun‘s sweet baby shower with you.

Before finding out their baby girl’s gender, Tammy and her husband were calling the baby, “Bumby” and the nickname totally stuck. While planning for the baby shower, Tammy didn’t want to go the all-pink route (she is a self-professed tomboy) and chose a neutral color palate of pale yellows and dove grays to set the tone. She settled on a bee-themed party and the cute-as-can-be baby shower was an absolute success.

Tammy designed the baby shower invitation, the Stroller Peek-A-Boo and as one of the many perks of being a part of the team, she was able to customize the colors of her invitation to match her party’s palate. The end result was displayed on a wooden easel.

Tammy used mason jars (re-used from canning jams) for beverage mugs and added whimsical striped paper straws for added charm.

Her talented pastry chef-sister created a lovely dessert platter complete with a cake stand constructed from recycled cardboard and covered with found ribbon. The desserts on the plate included passion fruit curd tart, s’mores pudding cups, blackberry mochi cake, and a small yellow butter cake in the middle. A mini tea luncheon was also served on yellow gingham fabric.

Tammy’s family and friends honored her with an amazing party. Check out the bee-autiful ladies of Paper Culture. From left to right are Katy, April, Huiling and Tammy!

As a thank you to all who attended, party goers left with small jars filled with honey from the farmers’ market. Jute twine and old yellow ribbon adorned the jars. Aren’t the labels adorable?

It’s easy as one-two-three to create a bee-themed baby shower. A few decoration ideas might include: bright yellow candy and licorice in jars, yellow and black balloons, and bright sunflowers for floral arrangements. Food and drink can be anything lemon- or honey- flavored and other party favors might include something from Burt’s Bees‘s product line or beeswax candles.

Ever wonder how we here at Paper Culture find inspiration? Do we sit in a dimly lit room with our eyes tightly shut, holding hands, chanting “ommmm”?

Along those lines, we welcome your feedback and ideas. Find your “inner-designer” and tell us how Paper Culture has inspired you in 200 words or less. Maybe a bridal shower invitation determined the theme of your party or a holiday photo card motivated you to make your own wrapping paper. You tell us! If we select your story, we’ll give you a $50 gift certificate for your next Paper Culture order. How’s that for inspiration? Simply share your story by commenting on this blog or send an email to kirstena@paperculture.com.

Um, no — or at least, not that I’m aware of.

The joke around here is that our inspiration is erratic. As easy as it would be to look to one person, place or thing for incitement, that is simply not the case. Being paper lovers, we are mindful of the trends around us, but between you and me, we probably spend the least amount of time looking at other invitations, announcements and stationery. Besides, that would be imitating, and how uninspired is that?

It’s much more fun to look at fashion, architecture or environmental advances as sources of ideas. We also find enormous inspiration in organizations that provide leadership in areas that touch our communities, including those that promote education, the health of our families and environmental innovation.

But really, we find our most important inspiration in talking to you.

Like most blogs, we will share fun company tidbits, special discounts, design previews and maybe even some of the more interesting corporate stuff. But our real goal is to have this be a forum for us to exchange ideas, to share thoughts and ultimately, for us to find the source of our next inspiration.
